Jo Barett interviews a group of Andean farmers

Progressio’s London-based communications officer, Esther Trewinnard, and policy and communications manager, Tim Aldred, deal with all enquiries from the press.

Progressio spokespeople

Our London-based experts have longstanding expertise on a whole range of international development issues. We operate in 11 developing countries, which means our staff can offer reaction to events happening on the ground, often as stories break.

And, with nearly 40 years’ of experience placing skilled workers with local communities in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, we’re proud to be able to pass on the views and opinions of the people living and working at the sharp end of development – literally,  “voices from the south”.

If you’re a journalist or producer looking for an expert on any of our key issues – or if you have a broader question about our experiences of international development – email Esther Trewinnard or call +44 (0)20 7288 8619 or email Tim Aldred or call +44 (0)7740 543047.

Our regions

Africa, Middle East and Asia

We can give you the latest on development issues in the countries where we work – Zimbabwe, Malawi, Yemen, Somaliland and Timor Leste (East Timor). We’re also up to speed on many of the political issues in the regions of Africa in which we work and on the fight for justice in Timor Leste.

Central America and Caribbean

We’ve got the inside track on development issues across Latin America, particularly the Central American and Caribbean regions (including El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras) with additional focus on human rights, indigenous rights and governance. We also have a lot to say about development in Haiti and, particularly, bi-national relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic and have worked throughout Hispaniola for many years.

South America

We also work in Peru and Ecuador – and can tell you all about development, indigenous rights and the environmental issues in both countries.

Environment

Climate change, water and illegal logging

Ask us for analysis of issues relating to the environment and development, both in the countries where we work and in the developing world more broadly. We are specialists on illegal logging, and the drive to combat it, and know a good deal about water issues in the developing world - particularly water resource management. We can also tell you how climate change is affecting some of the world's poorest communities - including how they are trying to adapt and asking to be supported.

Food security

From small-scale farming to agro-ecological production and international food crises – we can tell you what we think about the challenges of feeding the planet’s six billion people today and in the future.

Development policy

Poverty, aid and development policy

Ask us for analysis on issues relating to global poverty and development, both in the countries where we work and in the developing world more broadly.

Faith

Catholic social teaching

Ask us about this inspiring body of social justice teaching which drives radical, progressive action on poverty in Catholic communties both in the UK and around the world.

Faith, development and environment

We also cover issues linked to faith and development and faith and the environment. As we’re independent of the Catholic Church we offer a unique perspective on Catholicism and global development.

Conflict and emergencies

States affected by conflict

Many of the countries we work in are post-conflict states with their own particular social, environmental and economic challenges. Ask us about the impact of conflict on development.

Emergency relief

If you have a pressing question about disaster relief work, how countries recover from disasters and the impact on longer-term development, we can help. When emergencies hit in the countries where we work we have been quick to respond: helping to sow the seeds of longer term development. We supported communities in Peru after the 2007 earthquake and continue to work with communities in Haiti after the 2010 tremor.

Gender

Gender and development

Tackling gender inequity is crucial to tackling poverty. We’re experts on gender and development, and can provide spokespeople on both specific and broader gender-related issues.
